VASIPPOM NESIPPOM - Book Review Event

The VASIPPOM NESIPPOM Book Review Programme was organized with the aim of instilling a passion for reading and fostering literary engagement among students. The event invited participants to select books of their choice—ranging from fiction and biographies to motivational and regional literature—and present their reviews in an organized setting.

The programme provided a platform for students to articulate their thoughts, share interpretations, and discuss the key elements of the books they read, including plot, characters, themes, and writing style. It encouraged reflective reading, creative expression, and independent thinking. By allowing freedom of book selection, the event accommodated a wide range of interests and reading levels, making it inclusive and student-friendly.

Held in a library setting, the atmosphere promoted quiet focus and respect for literature. Faculty members and peers listened to the reviews, offering feedback and facilitating discussion. The event also aimed to bridge the gap between academic reading and recreational reading, helping students discover the joy of books outside of prescribed texts.

Through this initiative, students not only enhanced their reading and presentation skills but also connected with one another over shared literary interests, strengthening the academic and cultural spirit of the institution.

Outcome:
The VASIPPOM NESIPPOM programme significantly enriched the academic environment by deepening students’ engagement with reading. Through book reviews and group discussions, students explored various literary genres, themes, and styles, which broadened their perspectives and nurtured a deeper appreciation for literature.

Participants demonstrated increased enthusiasm for reading beyond the classroom syllabus, showing a genuine interest in exploring fiction, non-fiction, and regional literature. The process of preparing and presenting their reviews helped students develop critical thinking abilities—such as analyzing characters, interpreting themes, and evaluating writing styles.

Additionally, the act of presenting reviews in front of peers enhanced their communication and public speaking skills. The programme also fostered collaboration and peer learning, as students listened to diverse viewpoints and exchanged interpretations in a respectful, engaging setting. Overall, the event succeeded in cultivating a vibrant literary culture and sense of community among students and faculty.
