During orientation, the students were guided through the various sections of the library, including the reference, lending, periodicals, journals, newspapers, digital resources, and departmental book collections. The library staff and the English Department faculty explained the library rules and regulations, membership procedures, book borrowing and return policies, and the effective use of the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) for locating books and other learning resources.

Students were encouraged to develop regular reading habits and make optimum use of both print and digital resources to strengthen their academic knowledge and communication skills. They were also introduced to the importance of scholarly journals, reference materials, e-books, and online databases in enhancing classroom learning and preparing for competitive examinations.

As part of the orientation programme, the second-year English students presented an insightful book review, highlighting the significance of reading in academic and personal development. Their presentation encouraged first-year students to cultivate a regular reading habit and to make effective use of the rich resources available at the college library. They also shared their own experiences of how consistent library usage had enhanced their language proficiency, critical thinking, and subject knowledge. The programme was further enriched by the guidance and encouragement of the Department of English faculty, who motivated students to use the library as a centre for lifelong learning and skill development. The session inspired the newcomers to actively engage with the library and explore its vast collection of books, journals, and digital resources throughout their academic journey.

The orientation concluded with an interactive session in which students clarified their doubts about library facilities and services. The programme received an enthusiastic response from the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the informative and practical guidance provided.

The initiative successfully equipped the first-year students with the knowledge and confidence to utilize the library effectively, fostering a culture of reading, independent learning, and academic excellence from the beginning of their college journey.
