The Talent Show

G. Venkataswamy Naidu College (Autonomous), Kovilpatti, organised “The Talent Show – Freedom Through Words: Celebrating India’s Spirit of Independence” on 13 August 2026 at Meeting Hall No. 60, as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The programme was organised by the Department of English (Aided) and The Linguaholic Forum, with the support of the Department of Library, to provide students with a platform to showcase their literary abilities, creativity, confidence, and communication skills.

The event was organised with the aim of promoting India’s rich history and cultural heritage while encouraging students to develop an appreciation for language, literature, reading, and patriotic expression. The programme featured three competitions: Poetry Recitation, Reading Competition, and Book Review.

The competitions witnessed enthusiastic participation from students representing different departments of the college. The participants displayed commendable preparation, confidence, creativity, and interest in literary activities. The event served as an effective platform for students to overcome stage fear, strengthen their communication skills, and express their thoughts with clarity and confidence.

The programme was organised under the guidance of Dr. P. Mahendran, Secretary; Dr. A. Pandiarani, Principal i/c; and Dr. R. Saravana Selvakumar, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of English (Aided). The organising responsibilities were carried out by Ms. A. Gayathri and Ms. B. Vidhya Lakshmi, Assistant Professors of English (Aided).

The event also provided students with an opportunity to understand and appreciate the significance of India’s freedom struggle and the values of patriotism, unity, responsibility, and cultural heritage. Through poetry, reading, and book reviews, the participants connected literary expression with the spirit of independence.

The event reaffirmed the belief that words can inspire, literature can preserve history, and young voices can carry the spirit of freedom forward to future generations.
